REVIEW – Sweet Sally's Bakeshop
By valmg on Jan 12, 2011 with Comments 2

Sally, from Sweet Sally’s Bakeshop, a New York City bakery, sent us some treats. Yay for Sally, we love treats!
ABOUT SWEET SALLY’S
Sally Saltbart Minier learned to cook from her grandmother, well known locally for her Jewish specialties, and her mother, well known for her world class Apple Pie, New York Cheesecake, Classic Spritz Butter Cookies and LBI Blueberry Buckle. She worked in the food industry as a young woman and then moved to the field of finance. She eventually moved back to the food industry and after years in dining service operations decided to fulfill her dream and opened Sweet Sally’s.

MY THOUGHTS
So the treats. Boy are they yummy! I received a box of butter cookies, a box of Big Apple Crackle, a bag of Rugelach and a Heart Brownie. My pictures didn’t come out well, so I’m using Sweet Sally’s pictures. The treats looked just like the pictures on the website.

The Classic Spritz Hearts butter cookies were buttery and fresh and had sugar sprinkled on top, I liked them much better than most of the prepackaged butter cookies you find on store shelves.

The Heart Brownie was interesting, I found it to be tasty but more like a cross between a brownie and a piece of fudge.

The Right Size Chocolate Rugelach had a bitter chocolate filling which I’m not a big fan of but it also had some sort of jam that balanced out the flavor nicely. I loved the size of these treats – perfect for someone like me who doesn’t eat much at once.

I didn’t care much for the Big Apple Crackle – I’m not a fan of nuts or matzoh. I gave that to RB who said it was ok but found the distinct matzoh flavor a bit much.
Sweet Sally’s offers a number of other treats, some of which I’d have gobbled on sight if they’d been sent to me including Cheesecake Brownies, Old Fashioned Chocolate Chip Cookies, Rainy Day Fudge Brownies and Caryn’s Tangy Lemon Bars. Sweet Sally’s Bakeshop desserts and cookies are available for purchase online.
