Hormel Chili And Dinty Moore 75th Anniversary Giveaway And Recipes
By valmg on May 11, 2010 with Comments 33

From food to flight, 1935 was a year for legends: Monopoly debuted. Elvis Presley was born. And two iconic cans appeared on store shelves: Dinty Moore® products and Hormel® chili. Today, these brands can be found in virtually every pantry. This year Hormel Foods and Dinty Moore celebrate their 75th anniversary, quite a feat for two brands that started with one product each. They have grown into two of the most popular, recognizable brands on the market today.
In the winter I make a giant stockpot of chili every week or two. Everyone devours it and within two days it’s gone. Once warmer weather arrives I don’t cook as many things that generate tons of heat in the house, including chili. But just because I don’t feel like cooking doesn’t mean people don’t feel like eating. We usually have some Hormel Chili around for those times when someone has the taste for chili. Stew is another one of those foods that I don’t make in warm weather. I first learned of Dinty Moore stew when I moved out on my own in the 80s. You could always find cans of Dinty Moore in the cabinet, because they were affordable and tasted close to homemade (and because I didn’t know how to make stew).
Hormel Foods and Dinty Moore make it really easy for me to have tasty foods in the house at all times. They’re quick, easy and convenient – just heat and eat. They can be eaten alone as a quick meal or combined with other foods to create a dish. It doesn’t get much more Mom-friendly than that.
One of my favorite dips is made with only two ingredients – Hormel Chili and Velveeta.

To make the dip you combine Hormel Chili (I use the one with no beans) and chunks of Velveeta. Heat on low on the stove or microwave for about 60 – 90 seconds until the cheese melts. Serve with chips or tortillas.

Here’s another recipe. This easy recipe is for Cowboy Stew (also called Beef Stew Bonanza) and was taken from a 1976 Dinty Moore package label.
Ingredients
- 1 (40-ounce) can Dinty Moore® beef stew
- 3 (15-ounce) cans Hormel® chili with beans
In large pot over medium heat, combine stew and chili. Heat just until boiling, stirring occasionally. Serves 10.
Other recipes to consider, include Chili Cheese Dip , Chili-mac, and Easy Shepherd’s Pie, all of which can be found at www.hormelrecipes.com.
