Cook's Ham For Easter Or Anytime – With Giveaway
By valmg on Apr 04, 2010 with Comments 117

We have a couple of rituals we do in our family every Easter. I go to the cemetery every year on Good Friday to visit my Grandma. Then on Easter Sunday I have everyone over for a big dinner. Parts of the dinner never change – Cook’s Ham, mashed potatoes and garlic bread. I always serve two veggies, usually corn and green beans. Only two parts of the meal ever change – what we’re having for dessert and what we’re doing with the leftovers.
This year I waited until the last minute to pick up my ham. Unfortunately, I was unable to find a spiral ham large enough so I went with a traditional bone-in shank half ham that cost just over $20.00. Going with the traditional instead of the spiral wasn’t a big deal really. Most of Cook’s Hams are already cooked and only require heating so they’re both super easy to make. The spiral hams are definitely much neater and easier to serve than the traditional. Plus they come with tasty glaze! But, the traditional has that big bone, which my Mom loves to use for making split pea soup. I’ve made both types of Cook’s Hams many times and have never been disappointed. One ham can make a number of meals, making it one of the most versatile foods and one of the foods that really gives you your money’s worth.
This morning I put my 15 pound Easter ham into the oven. It’s been in a bit over an hour and I’m starting to smell the yummy aroma of the ham cooking. There’s easily enough to feed everyone and then some. I’ll give my Mom the bone and some pieces so she can make soup. This year I’ll be making ham salad, as well as ham and cheese pasta salad, with the leftovers. We’ll also have some for breakfast – eggs, ham and cheese are so yummy!
