California Tamale Pie

1 pound lean ground beef
3/4 cup yellow corn meal
1 1/2 cups milk
1 each egg — beaten
1 package chili seasoning mix
1 teaspoon seasoned salt
1 pound can tomatoes — cut up
1 pound whole kernel corn, frozen — drained
2 1/4 ounces can ripe olives — sliced and drained
1 cup cheddar cheese — grated

In skillet or slow-cooking pot with browning unit, cook meat until crumbly; drain.
In large bowl, mix corn meal, milk, and egg.
Add drained meat, dry chili seasoning mix, seasoned salt, tomatoes, corn, and olives.
Pour into slow-cooking pot.
Cover and cook on high for 3 to 4 horus.
Sprinkle cheese over top.
Cook another 5 minutes.

    After reading the calif. tamale pie, I went on a mad dash through the supplies in my house.
    I found I had everything but the cornbread mix.
    what I did find was a large bag of Fritoes corn chips.
    I crushed them up, put everything together as instructed and it turned out great!
    A very good dish! James

    I just noticed this recipe when I was entering my FFOF comment. It’s similar to the Tamale Spoonbread Pie recipe that I got from a friend. Your recipe sounds better, though, because it would be spicier and it wouldn’t make such a huge amount like my friend’s recipe.
